Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe pulling (picking) mushrooms up, roots and all, is advisable. I think one needs to pinch them off at the base or cut them off leaving the root in place. You should be able to go back, year after year, to a place where you picked a morel and unless someone beat you to the 'shroom, you can pick there each year. Wild asparagus, too...sometimes you find it growing in the ditches...after it has whatever they call it, flowered out? So you mark the spot and go back in the spring when it is new growth.
You are correct, sir. This extends to all manner of 'shrooms. ;-)

...here in my chunk of Appalachian sod, us Redneckian types will wander aimlessly off into the woods, looking either for a relative to have relations with, the stray beer can to take in for scrap $$$ or maybe find us a 'shroom or two while communing with aliens and lunching with a Grass Ape.....

Don't encourage him. He gets so cheesy people think he is from Green Bay.

But the relatives one was really funny.

Offensive, yes*. But funny.

* I do not like insults that rely on generalizations when they are meant to be serious, but as long as they are clearly jokes and no real harm is intended nor provoked, I am fine with it. Besides, rednecks are not under protection from the current social justice warriors, so, as of May 2016, it is still "politically correct" to make fun of them.
