I love historical fiction, if it's well-done. I've read a few that have so many anachronisms that I shudder. I'll give this one a try, then, and look into this 'trilogy' situation.

EDIT: As best as I can ascertain, the third book, The Mirror and the Light, is supposed to be out this August. I have my doubts, though, since I haven't been able to pin down a date and these things are usually set many months in advance. It follows Cromwell's life from the death of Anne Boleyn to his own death (1636-1640, I believe).

You'd probably love Gore Vidal's Burr.

I just finished Frenchman's Creek by Daphne du Maurier and I absolutely loved it. The writing, the characters, the story, everything was just perfect. You know that feeling when you're so immersed in the story that everything else fades away? I had that for the few days it took me to read the book.
I think du Maurier is starting to become one of my favorite writers. I want to re-read Rebecca and then start on Mrs de Winters, the sequel, by Susan Hill.

Now I'm reading Caitlin Moran's How To Be a Woman and it's just...I don't know...but I'm more than halfway through and I'd hate to stop now...

I finished American Gods by Neil Gaimin. The jury is still out on that one. It is a good book. Some of the imagery is amazing. Thought provoking as well. I'm not someone who has to have endings tied up in neat strings, but I'm not sure how it ended. One person died and I'm not sure about the other one. The other thing that is bothering me about it is that there is a patina of smug blastered about the whole thing.

Frenchman's Creek was fantastic! I thought it was much better than Rebecca :)

I just picked up The Fletch Chronicle, which is 3 of the Gregory McDonald Fletch books in one tome. The Chevy Chase movie aside, I am completely uninitiated. A review blurb says, "McDonald writes circles around his competitors." If John D. MacDonald was considered one of his competitors, I'm in for a durn good read. I've had a rough time finding anything that'll hold my interest lately. To the point I'm considering reading Duma Key for the 4th time. I will read it this summer but it's too soon. I also picked up Garrison Keillor's Wobegon Boy. Talk about eclectic choices. I need something!

I can't give enough praise for Heart Shaped Box... especially since it was his first novel. I have read Heart Shaped Box , Horns and The Fireman... all three are pretty darn good! I will begin N0S4A2 soon... :)

Oh.. I ordered an audio book. I have never listened to one before. In The Tall Grass. not sure if I want to listen to this first or begin N0S4A2 .. lol.. decisions decisions~~~

Finished Vanessa Diffenbaugh's We Never Asked for Wings this morning.
Quick, character-driven read. I enjoyed it.

Now reading Michael Crichton's A Case of Need. So far, so good.
Keep in mind that he wrote this way back in 1968 under the name 'Jeffrey Hudson', so it's probably outdated, but it is still a great story!
