I'm always thankful for this forum because I have nowhere else to go.
A break can be a good thing Enjoy yours!Reading this thread is making me regret it just a little, but...
we are boycotting Thanksgiving this year. For the last 10 years or so, I have hosted Thanksgiving at my house in the Outer Banks. We have many local friends there, my folks would come and it would be just a huge thing! I start working on the turkey the night before(brining/seasoning), then up early to get it cooking, along with rolls, and a few sides. Other folks bring sides, appetisers and dessert and we eat, play games and watch football. We've had as many as 26 people!
This year, we can't make it to the beach, and since my dad passed, holidays really feel off to me. My mom is coming up, but we plan to eat a nice big breakfast, watch the parade, then maybe go out for a movie, then hubby is going to cook some massive steaks on the grill. I'm not going shopping on Friday either! We'll probably put up the Christmas tree instead. Anyway, likely this will only be a one-year experiment and I will be back to my 23 lb turkey fixing again next year!
What's chow-chow? Some kind of dog food?It makes a body tired to hear such goin's on.
And don’t even dare start on Hot Bacon Dressing or Chow-Chow.
Makes me a little sad to think the skillet will be cold on Turkey Day. Your reasons are very clear and I feel for you, my Deer. This will be the first Thanksgiving for us without Dad as well. I will endeavor to save you some leftovers however, I think you deserve it.......
