...OK, no way am I going to like the last few posts.....sure, it may be that the animal was strictly killed for sport-yet none of you know if the hunter planned on using the hide and the meat, if so-then it wasn't just a thrill kill.....don't act as a judge if you don't know the whole story.......

While I abhor trophy killing, as Scott said, we don't know this hunter. We don't know his circumstances. And if you are meat eaters, you have to be careful, do you know the atrocities that are inflicted on beef cows through those slaughter shoots? Dolphin nets? Chicken farms?

Hunting is necessary. It keeps herds healthy. It keeps their environment healthy.

And I know many people that hunting is what puts food on their table.

Just throwing that out there.

I gave up hunting some time ago as I now have family and friends that supply me with my fix for venison jerky. But I did participate in a vendetta hunt recently. It was me against the sneaky mouse that has plagued my garage for about a week and ruined several birdseed bags and ate a hole in one of my Jets sweatshirts.

Me and my trusted Victor reigned supreme! :)

...also, this young man is in a wheelchair, which indicates that it was a group hunt for the disabled, to allow those that are outdoorsman, but crippled for some reason-to still do what they love....

I don't know... It looks like a trophy photo to me. I have nightmares about thrill killers :(

Yeah, me too. I find the way the rifle is resting on the animal's haunches particularly disturbing. I have uncles, and they all hunted. But I never saw a pic of any of holding up a dead deer's head grinning, or any antlers on their walls. The only trophies I saw were packages of wrapped deer meat. Venison? Which I guess was pretty good, I can't really remember.

Have to admit that when it comes to hunting, as long as the hunters are using the meat to feed their families then it does not bother me (any more than what is done in abattoirs everywhere).

I picked this attitude up when I was out in Alberta - coming from southern Ontario I did not know any hunters. The first time I tried venison or deer sausage, I was surprised at how good it was.

Another exception would be indigenous people who have always hunted for generations, and still have the right to do so.

Even up where Andy is right now they have Inuit who live off the land, which is healthier for them than buying convenience food at the Northern Store.

...it’s an elk I do believe...
I don't agree with trophy hunting for big game (e.g. lions in Africa for example), but like someone said above, there are a lot of deer, elk, etc. and it's not against the law to hunt.

Up in Nunavut they hunt caribou and Andy has prepared that in the kitchen at the Lodge.

It's weird but he has to use special procedures because it is wild game (so the regular food has no way of being contaminated).

You might find this interesting:

It popped up when I was searching something on the internet

http://www.nunavutnurses.ca/inuktitut/documents/Life_in_a_Nunavut_Community.pdf

p.s. it's nothing to do with hunting but it made me think of you (nurses etc.)

Whether the dude in the photo is a trophy hunter or not, trophy hunters give me the creeps. I don't usually eat cows or other furry animals but hubby does so once or twice a year we go to a steakhouse. Y'all might think I'm a silly goose but I'm uncomfortable eating in a room with trophy heads on the wall. When we leave I tell the heads I'm sorry and I apologize for the indignity humans have forced upon them by nailing their heads to the walls.

Yeah... I get strange looks from some patrons who overhear me.

We could not eat in restaurants with trophy heads when my son was young -- it was very disturbing to him.

Everytime I see these hunter *******s,I think of this movie...

View attachment 24700

I could be 100% wrong here, but I have a feeling the hunter became the hunt-ed!

I havn't seen the movie but I read the summary - ultra creepy!

I remember a Night Gallery episode titled Clean Kills and Other Trophies. It's about a tyrannical big game hunter who forces his son to make a "clean kill" or lose his inheritance.
