Well, this story is gross and politically incorrect and I think that's exactly what Steve intended. ;-D

I liked it (and I cringed a few times). Let's see someone try and make a network TV movie from this one.

I think the title not only refers to a book dedication but also to Martha.

So, let's hear some feedback.

Gross is spot on. Like the take that there was also dedication on Martha's part. She sacrifices , with her work ethic to help her son. Does anyone feel there might be an underlying tribute to his own mother-- who was such a hard worker herself. What she sacrificed for her son?

Steve said in the notes that the writer was based on an experience he had of meeting a writer he admired that turned out to be an awful person.

Gross. Yep. SK did a good job of depicting a friendship between two characters with which he has absolutely nothing in common. I also "saw" the old bruja quite clearly. A story that gets lost in this collection, I think.

(Just a sidenote; I know of no spell that would require this. Nor do I know of any mushroom that bleeds. Just sayin')

I haven't gotten to sit down and read this one yet. But I do remember the gross factor!!

This is the first of the stories that I read before. Or rather started.

For me the gross factor was much higher than the enjoyment or curiousity of the story. So...again didn’t finish it.

...of all the gross out moments in his earlier work, this one took home the trophy.....it had the "seed" of a good story, but that moment just jumped it off the ledge......
