I know someone who drinks a lot, and got caught watching porn twice by his wife within the last month. Then has the nerve to go to church!
What do you all think of this?
It's not an easy scenario.
Hypocrite: One who practices hypocrisy. Hypocrisy: The practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform
Does he claim that drinking is immoral? Then he's a hypocrite.
Does he claim that watching porn shouldn't be allowed? Then he's a hypocrite.
If he's making no claim, but he's drinking, and viewing porn, and going to church? That kinda makes him mainstream American male.
As for having questionable values and going to church - well, if a believer finds meaning or salvation by going to church, it would be the wrongdoer, the sinner, who would needs church the most.
Frankly, if there as a friend or acquaintance of mine who drank too much (
he said on a sleepless night as he sips a cocktail), I'd hope I'd have the gumption, the
cajones, to call him or her out on it and say, You sure you know what you're doing, sport?
If a lady friend of mine complained to me privately of her husband watching porn, I'd tell her that 1) thousands of searches for adult content are made every minute, 13% of searches are adult-related, and men are sexually driven, so however disappointing it may be, it's not a huge surprise, and 2) I'd tell the husband (if we were that kind of friend) that it's bothering his wife, so please knock it off, at least during times when you'll get caught. I mean, caught twice? That's just stupid.
But mostly, it's none of my business, unless I'm brought into it, and you better believe it would be reluctantly.
