I dunno. They promised some major new additions, but from what I can see, the only huge difference is that she can do research on the internet now. I'm middle of the road on this one. It may not be bad, but I wonder if it's really enough of an improvement to warrant yet another redo. The original may be dated, but in terms of Carrie's personality, I think that one nailed it.

I agree, it's really close to the original movie, there are no significant improvements.
I was really curious to see Margaret White's death, mainly because I saw an interview with the cast and they said (I think it was Julianne Moore) that this movie would be faithful to King's novel. I was a bit disappointed when I saw those knifes and scissors flying ... :ambivalence:

I can't wait to see this! I think I'm going to have to go alone though, but I kind of enjoy that. What do you like to eat when you go to the movies? I refuse to pay those horrid prices for snacks at the concession stand, so I usually bring something. Once, the husband and I ate an entire roll of chocolate chip cookie dough whilst watching The Doors - this was a looooong time ago.

Finally I watched this! Luckily, I was not disappointed. Yes, they left everything the same as in the original movie, with just some improvements, considering we are living in a different time now... I like Chloe Moretz's prformance, she did a great job. She is a very talented girl and she has a bright future, I just hope she does not take the wrong path like many other teenage actors.

I went to see the movie with a friend who does not like scary films, and does not really know about Stephen King:) But she liked the movie. And this is one proof that this is a good way to attract attention of young people now, re-making such great movies (only if they do it as good as this one, surely).

It's great that they tried to follow the story line of the original book. I read that in one of those magazines that you can get at Cineplex - somebody left it lying around our coffee room at work.

Gotta disagree with everyone on this thread, seems I'm in a small minority. Thought the new movie was awful, really bad. Felt like I was watching a made-for-TV cheap trashy American movie made on a shoestring budget, lots of blood and gore (cos that makes a scary movie right?) and bad acting aplenty. It tried to update it by setting in the present rather than in the 70's with iphones and the internet and todays music, but it just doesn't work. I really didn't like the lead actress who played Carrie, too pretty and too slim to play her--In fact, I didn't connect with any of the characters in the film. I really don't have a good word to say about this movie, was hoping it would be much much better than this as I love the novel but this was just dire to say the least, really don't know how some of you say its a wonderful film or its improved on the original...

Welcome to the board. I haven't seen the new movie as I didn't have real high hopes for it. The original is my holy grail.
