Dear Marsha: 'I'm so glad we had this time together..........'

Thanks a lot for your time. It was amazing they kept this board running so long for relatively few people. And it's not often like this on other boards. I must say, I always stayed out of the more socializing part, because I was on a board before where I did do that, but that board ended with a...

    Finally a Gerald's Game movie!

You can find endless sites of vacation rentals in Maine. So I suppose it's only the more rich people who can afford to own these houses, like some of the characters in some books, who were famous writers for example. And the Burlingames were rich too, because they could afford 200 dollar steak...

    Finally a Gerald's Game movie!

Rewatched the film. It holds up well. Flanagan is one of the directors who understands SK's voice very well, and even though he clearly has his own voice, his care for the original work always shines through. One thing I wondered about. SK often writes about the characters owning summer houses...

    Joel Schumacher

Very stylish and versatile filmmaker. My favourite film would be 'Phantom of the Opera', a very lavish version of the story. Of course, he also did some of the best Grisham films. I also like Flatliners, but I can't help feel that the premise was more interesting than the way it was played out...

Why is his later work often more sexual in tone?

It depends on the parents. If the parents treat sex in a natural way and explain things when they think the children are ready, there would be no problem. Of course it depends on what kind of porn it is. But in the book it was nothing heavy, it was some porn actors at a pool moaning a lot. It...

Why is his later work often more sexual in tone?

Abra is not a regular kid. She's like Danny was when he was young, far more adult and intelligent than her age. She may not have been sexual active yet, but watching adults having sex wouldn't disturb her. And I doubt in general children would be very disturbed by sex when they understand...

Why is his later work often more sexual in tone?

No, the hotel didn't exist anymore in the sequel, it burned down at the end of the first book. It happens when the True Knot are looking to abduct Abra. It has nothing to do with the hotel.

Why is his later work often more sexual in tone?

But if a 12 year old would understand what's going on in a porn film, why would they be disturbed by it? They would think 'oh, it's just a film with people having sex'. what's disturbing about that?

Why is his later work often more sexual in tone?

Salem's Lot has a love story too: Ben and Susan Norton. Well, that was the opinion of that person in that discussion. I can't recall the sex scenes in his work felt gratuitous to me at that point. It's more in later work like Doctor Sleep or the short stories I mentioned. I'm just using this...

Why is his later work often more sexual in tone?

It's funny. Spanish cult director Jess Franco had this title, and it's from the same year as The Shining novel: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0232633/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_117

Why is his later work often more sexual in tone?

I thought the board would be closed today. But, anyway, maybe those 'weird sexual moments' stand out, because he doesn't do it all the time. It's in his stories now and then, so it's not like with Clive Barker where it's a standard ingredient. So every time he puts it in, it feels a little odd...

    SKMB

So I suppose today's the last day the board is open? It reminds me of the Richard Matheson story 'The Last Day', which is about the differences of what people would be doing on the last day when the world ends. I suppose this is less dramatic though. Hopefully all your SK wishes will be...

What are you watching right now?

The Pale Horse (BBC) This is a nice very short tv-series - only two episodes. It looks very stylish (as BBC productions now often do). It is based on Agatha Christie but it doesn't feel at all like a typical murder mystery. There are murders (people on a list who get killed off), but there is...

Children of the Corn - Sight Unseen

I listened to the commentary track of 'Who can kill a Child?' and Kat Ellinger, a genre expert who does many commentaries and writes interesting booklets for blu-ray releases, mentions 'Children of the Corn' and how it is very similar. There are also some differences: the children in the Spanish...

Why is his later work often more sexual in tone?

When I read this I wonder if it maybe was always there: I just remember it less from his earlier books, things like a whole discussion about Viagra. And certainly when his colleague writers joked 'Stephen hasn't discovered sex yet' - maybe he wanted to proof them wrong. But like the above...

Why is his later work often more sexual in tone?

Other examples are in some of the short stories. For example in Under the Weather the main character has to do an advertising campaign for a Viagra-like pill. And in Mile 81 Pete Simmons is thinking about the differences between certain pornographic magazines. Again, not that there wasn't sex in...

Children of the Corn - Sight Unseen

I forgot to say, as you can see in the trailer of the film a scythe is wielded by the children in 'Who can kill a Child?' too. So I think it's almost certain SK was inspired by the film, the scythe giving him the idea for the corn.

Children of the Corn - Sight Unseen

I'm always amazed at how close the story is to the Spanish horrorfilm 'Who can kill a Child' from 1976. It is exactly the same premise, just on a Spanish island instead of a Nebraska town. Of course in the Spanish film there is no corn, but just like in the story it's a couple that come to the...

Children of the Corn - Sight Unseen

I could look how it was translated here, but I lost the first part of Night Shift unfortunately (at one time Night Shift and Skeleton Crew came out here 'broken up' into several smaller books, Night Shift had two and Skeleton Crew three). Amazingly they're doing yet another film. It looks like...

What We Do In the Shadows

Strangely for next Thursday it isn't scheduled. Not sure what BBC is doing with it. According to the BBC site it should be on: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0005bky/episodes/guide But according to the guide on my tv it has been replaced with Match of the day. I'll just watch at the usual...
