19. The Last Man On Earth (1964) Vincent Price

Of the 3 movies (that I know of), this adaptation of Richard Matheson’s I Am Legend is the truest to the novel. I think this is one of Vincent Price’s finest roles. I read that Richard Matheson wasn’t crazy about Vincent Price’s performance but I really like the sadness that Vincent gives the character. 8/10

14. The Babysitter (FTV)
A bullied boy's babysitter seems too good to be true--that's because she's secretly the leader of a Satanic teenage cult that's after his innocent blood. Directed with a certain amount of comic book exuberance (think "Scott Pilgrim" meets "Malcolm in the Middle" but with gore), The Babysitter walks the line between empty mindless fun and occasionally being too grating and desperately hip for its own good. The boy Cole too easily sheds his victimhood and becomes an proactive hero too soon and too easily, and the now requisite pop cultural arguments are just forced and unrealistic--when his teenage babysitter casually drops a Godfather 2 reference, the pre-teen boy breathes "I love her." Sounds more like wishful thinking on the part of the screenwriter than a realistic development of characters, so brace yourself for the occasional cringe. Still, there's plenty to enjoy and laugh about in The Babysitter, and Samara Weaving's titular character is pretty easy on the eyes as well as being a cold-blooded Satanic ritual killer.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

27.) The Little Shop of Horrors (1986)

Thought this was going to be a dark comedy. I'd heard of the movie, but never watched it. I loved it! (And I hate musicals. LOL) Silly, kooky fun. John Candy, Steve Martin, Jim Belushi, Bill Murray and Steve Martin - can't go wrong with this movie for a laugh or two. :)

I checked out this DVD from the library today (it's slim pickings for anything remotely horror related!). I've never seen it either. Hope to watch it tonight or tomorrow.

Eh. It's a British murder story more than a horror. A murder expert and writer keeps a secret museum where he devises future crimes to write about. His assistant under his thrall is injected with a Jeckel and Hyde serum to do evil deeds though the writer does some of his own. I was led to believe the murders would be imaginative because the first one was. I was wrong. Not quite on the level of Dr. Phibes and that wasn't exactly great either but at least it had Vincent. The makeup was ridiculous on Hyde. Gray face on a normal neck like they couldn't even spring for smearing some past the chin.

12) Nosferatu (1979)--I tried this one in English (IMDb says Herzog filmed the movie both in English and German), but found the performances wooden, so I watched it again in German with subtitles. It was a great improvement! Whoever subbed the copy I watched didn't do a great job (I can understand enough German that I picked up quite a few places where the subbing didn't match what was said at all--lots of paraphrasing that missed some nice phrasing), but the acting was much better. The producers of the new IT clearly drew quite a bit of Pennywise's look from this film, and I'd be willing to bet that Skaarsgard also studied Kinski's work in this film. A bit slow in parts, but interesting. Very creepy!
13) Dawn of the Dead (1978)-The last time I saw this one was at a midnight movie back in 1982! I found a DVD copy at the thrifty a while back and nabbed it (they're hard to come by--apparently some sort of snafu about who owns the rights? That's what my son said, anyway). It doesn't hold up as well as Night of the Living Dead, but it still has a bit of juice in it. I liked it better than the remake, anyway.

I'm a film behind (BH wanted to watch a not-horror movie tonight, so we watched Me Before You earlier tonight) so tomorrow I'll have to watch 2 creepers to catch up :)
