It’s January 5, 1900.

You've just returned from the year 802,701 A.D., dined with your four friends and told the tale of your time machine excursion. You are about to return to the future and join the people who call themselves Elio. You can only carry three books to bring to the future. (Pre-1900 books, obviously.)

Which three books do you take?

....I say to toss in primitive woodworking, plant and herb guides-plus some type of tract that explains how to make primitive weapons for hunting.....

I have a book that ended up with me. It was given to my Grandfather when he first came to Canada. He was given a wagon with 2 oxen and a few other critters, seeds, tools, etc...and a book. He was sent to his new land north of Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada and that is where he set up his homestead. This book tells you how to build a house or barn, how to plant and harvest various things, how to keep bees and collect honey, how to administer veterinary care to your animals, and a whole whack of other stuff. I should digitize it and put it online but I'm sure there are other books like that out there somewhere. I always thought that same idea could be used for the youth coming into adulthood of today...give them a grubstake (in this case money) and let them go out and grow that money or lose it (either through misfortune or foolishness).
