Here i must break my inofficial rule of one book for each author. And its Kings fault! Who else, right? Anyway, my list..... And the animals in question should not be nice so therefore The Plague Dogs by Richard Adams is not included. It is the humans that are the monsters in that story.

1. Cujo - Stephen King
2. Pet Semetary - Stephen King (that cat is scary even if its just a hint of whats coming....It just had to be included)
3. Jurassic Park - Michael Crichton
4. The Rats - James Herbert
5. Jaws - Peter Benchley

Here i must at once say that if de Mauriers The Birds would be considered a novel it would be included but i see it as a (rather long but still) short story.

1. Cujo - Stephen King
2. Pet Sematary - Stephen King
3. Jaws - Peter Benchley
4. Watchers - Dean Koontz
5. Midnight - Dean Koontz

The last two, as well as others by Koontz, aren't about natural animals. I don't remember exact details but I remember they were terrifying. I think the creatures were
genetically modified humans or animals. Ape-like.

I've read all 5 and I have to say those are quite good picks. Kudos for including James Herbert. I'd include the two below as well.

The Totem - David Morell (yes, Rambo's dad. It's an early effort from him that doesn't get enough love)
The Island of Dr Moreau - HG Wells
