In no particular order.
Modern Times - Charlie Chaplin
Bringing up Baby - Howard Hawks (Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn)
One, Two, Three - Billy Wilder (James Cagney and Arlene Francis)
Whiskey Galore - Alexander MacKendrick (Basil Radford and Joan Greenwood)
Some like it hot - Billy Wilder (Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis)

I am rather oldfashioned when it comes to comedies... I don't find this trend of romcoms very amusing. they can be OK but compared with really good comedies they are far behind. The same with these comedies where you are supposed to be so stupid all the time. In the long run stupidity isn't funny. Works in a sketch or a scene but for two hours it becomes a bit thin. So my favourites comes from the 30-ties to the 60-ties. They are all in black and white too. Shows what an old fossil I am, right?

Just off the top of my head:

Benny & Joon - quirky (Johnny Depp is quite young in this one)

Kate & Leopold - another interesting one with Hugh Jackman as the hero and Meg Ryan (also involves time travel)

I liked Blast from the Past with Brendan Frasier, Alicia Silverstone, Sissy Spacek and Christopher Walken

Don't laugh but the young couple in the animated film "Up" - they were so sweet - that is a funny movie - you should see it!

Must Love Dogs was also not too bad, simply because I like John Cusack and Diane Lane is the girl he meets and tries to have a romance with.

I agree some of those old classic black and white films were the best, but there actually are quite a few good modern ones too :love_heart:

Edit: Oh dear - Valentines Day must be influencing my choices here - I thought you meant romantic comedies, not just comedies.

I thoght of comedies. When it comes to romantic comedies i liked The Holiday with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz.
A more modern list. With movies made after i was born would include.
Foul Play (with Goldie Hawn, i really liked that one)
Life of Brian - Monty Pythons best movie
A fish called Wanda - Hilarious (Jamie Lee Curtis, John Cleese, Kevin Kline and Michael Palin)
Pink Panther (the first one with David Niven, Peter Sellers, Claudia Cardinale, Capucine and Robert Wagner)
A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (funny about what greed can make of otherwise good people, Ethel Merman is Brilliant, Michey Rooney, Spencer Tracy and several other great actors)

In no particular order:
Airplane
Spaceballs
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Return of the Living Dead
Mrs. Doubtfire.
Two of these would be in the horror category as well but they are intentionally funny and make me laugh no matter how many times I've seen them. That last part goes for all I listed!

It would take me years to decide five favorite comedy movies, so I'll just list the great ones that come immediately to mind, in no particular order...

1. Tootsie
2. Bringing Up Baby
3. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
4. Biloxi Blues
5. Cinderfella

(Annie Hall, Groundhog Day...)

In no particular order because I don't have a rigid top five, they change over time. So at the moment it is:

Airplane
Naked Gun
Scary Movie (I thought the first one was very funny)
Epic Movie
There is one that lampoons Twilight, but the name has gone out of my head, but I do remember finding it very funny.
