If you bring up “Google Maps” and key in 1956 Hubbell Ave, Des Moines, IA and zoom in you’ll see a nondescript building labeled as “Logan Automotive”. That’s the trouble with getting older the world keeps messing with your memories. This building use to house Nidy’s Pet Supplies & Aquatics and it was under this banner our ghost story takes place. My ex worked as a specialist within the shop and was quite good at her job as she was head zookeeper within our household. She arrived quite early on a December morning and decided to check on something in the receiving area where a huge stack of dog food was located. She noticed someone with a clipboard taking inventory which was a little surprising in light of the early hour. She never made direct eye contact but assumed it was the manager Mike. She continued into the main retail portion of the store and then into Mike’s office. Mike was sitting in his chair. Oh my! She asked Mike “Were in the storage area doing inventory a few minutes ago. Mike “No. Why?” And she told him about what she saw. They both arrived at the same conclusion. “Carl” Carl Nidy was the original owner of the store and poltergeist activities had occurred in the same area on many occasions with bags of dog food taking unexpected tumbles. The running joke was “I guess Carl’s just unhappy again”.
Well the store has changed hands but I wonder if Carl knows that or do tires bounce off shelves of Logan Automotive in the wee hours of the morning. I wonder.
