Hello, my name is Brittany. I'm a Stephen King fan, obviously, though I haven't been able to dwell as deep as many others. My husband and his mother are long time fans and it's very contagious. I'm currently reading my first Stephen King book and I'm completely in love. I've watched many of the films based off the books and they're all wonderful.

Biggest reason why I've joined the community is to honestly find a way to get a book signed for my mother-in-law. She is an amazing woman who has fought her way through life as a single mother working full time until her career was halted by Multiple sclerosis. A severe case of Pneumonia had forced her into a coma which she barely survived, coming out of it with brain damage. She still fought for herself and her children. Even today, with the medical problems and financial issues, she doesn't take anything lying down. She's stubborn, doesn't let anyone help her, and when she can afford it she helps those around her. She's physically incapable of working yet she still talks to me about how she wants to retake her tests and go back to working as an X-Ray Technician. I feel so blessed to be part of her family and to have married her wonderful son. I aspire to be like her in so many ways. I want to be a mother like she is. So strong, caring, and absolutely wonderful.

I'm sorry I went on and on about this but as I started typing about her, I just went off in my own little world. She is such a wonderful human being and I just want to do something for her. So here I am, looking for a way to get book signed by her favorite author. It's the least I could do for her. So if anyone could help me out, point me in some directions or maybe Stephen himself could be so kind as to read this and perhaps help me out, I would be so unbelievably grateful. You'd be fulfilling not only my dream, but hers as well. Thank you.

Welcome to the Board!

Unfortunately, Stephen only does autographs at book signings these days. There are reputable book dealers who sell previously signed books but they would not be personalized, of course. One such dealer is David Williamson at Betts Books.
Yeah, I figured a request would be out of the question. I read about how the book signings are locally advertised but I'm not sure how many he actually does in Maine. I'm currently living in Northern Maine and I'm not sure he comes up this way for book signings. Thank you for the heads up though. I'll check that link out and see what I can find. Thank you!

You're right, he doesn't typically do them in northern Maine. To be honest, I don't remember the last time he did one in Bangor either. I think the last ones he's done have all been in southern Maine. Don't be afraid to get in touch with David Williamson personally if you find one but don't think you can afford it as I've heard from other members that he's very willing to work out terms with his customers.

Thank you. I'll definitely do that. Some of the prices are very expensive. I'm not sure it's the easiest for me to navigate either. I've never shopped for a signed book before.

You might find cheaper ones on Ebay but the chances of getting a fake autograph are much higher, too. Betts is known to be a reliable source. Also, just want to mention that Stephen does not charge for his autograph but he can't control what others do with their books and there seems to be a lot of people who go to signings for the express purpose of getting a signed book and then selling it for a profit.

Yeah, I wanted to try to stay away from Ebay for that exact reason. It's a shame people exploit such a thing but I can't really say much when I'm willing to buy one either. I feel like I'm contradicting myself, haha!

Hi...I'm new to this forum but it sounds like if anyone deserves an autograph,it's your Mom in law. This might be incredibly ignorant but I was under the impression that one of the mods knew him quite well...perhaps she can help.
Hi there, I will just refer you to the message that Ms. Mod left earlier as this explains the situation. :)

Thank you. I knew it was a long shot. I'm sure I'm one of many that would like an autograph for a loved one. I already talked to my husband and we're considering buying one unless we can find a way to a book signing. Hard to say since we can't go down to Southern Maine very often. Wish I still lived around the Bangor area, it'd be a much shorter trip. Thank you though.

I should have had a look at the entire thread...sorry.I hope you manage to get an autograph. It really sounds like this would mean a great deal to your Mother in law.
