Are You Travelling For The Holidays?

We used to travel for Christmas to my parents' place - not far, an hour and a half - at least after the morning presents-opening was over.

Things change, and the hierarchy shifts (not to mention, people die off). Now the kids come across town to our place in the afternoon for a second round of gift openings and a hearty meal. We don't necessarily make it a traditional meal. One time it was lasagna, another time enchiladas. This year, we're thinking a nice brisket. I want to look up some Jewish recipes in honor of the day.

Im going to my uncles place on the 24,th and will be spending the night and doing the celebrating. Going home again early christmas day.

That is so cool. What you eat on Christmas day is your Christmas dinner. No reason it has to be the usual.

Across town on Christmas Eve, to the ILs for a couple of hours, then home for the duration My mom, brother, and niece will come over for dinner in the late afternoon/evening. This year, we're doing bahn mei--I'm tired of traditional foods. We may have a small ham for the non adventurous, and BH is making kugelis (traditional Lithuanian dish) from his great great grandmother's recipe. It's a PIA, so he only makes it once a year Candies, appetizers, pies--those as usual (or the kids will riot).

And Flake, my dad's family was the same way for a couple of years after his folks passed. Take the time you need to grieve and remember the good memories from years past. ((hugs to you and yours))

Well..... we priced briskets at the store. And, well, ouch.

Departing from the Jewish aspects, we found a nice pork roast at one-fifth the price, and I am not kidding, so we're going with that. But still, the Jewish recipe looks darn good. It recommends cooking the day before, refrigerating it, skimming off the congealed fat for tastier and less greasy food, and heating it back up. So I'm going to follow that recipe with all the vegetables and spices and sauces - except that the meat is decidedly non-kosher. (So, yes, it's a Jewish recipe... except for the pork.)

I'll letcha know.

We're leaving for the airport in about an hour and a half. Going back to Cozumel for some diving; I have no words for how much I need this, but I need it big. In much the same sense that space is big.

I miss the ocean sooooo much; the worst part of this year has been being land-locked. I have, however, taken a few sanity breaks; I saw Belladonna a couple of times in Boston. We failed to connect last time, but I am sure I will be back there in the future. I really like Boston.

NO!! I drive anywhere from 4 to 6 hours every day. I may go crazy this year and stay in my recliner in a pair of Depends.
