My husband told me this one about a big old house that is across the street from the library

There was a really rich family that lived in the place and it has been rumored to be haunted for a long time

Well one night the family just left with out taking any of there things with them

They left the lights on in there and even there dinner was still sitting on the table

they seen this when someone went in to check on them a few days later and nobody has lived in the house sinc e they left

This always creeped me out for some reason.

I'll share with you all a true story. I know it is true because it happened to my family and I, as well as some other folks.

When I was in the 6th grade, my family moved into an old farmhouse somewhere in the Mississippi River delta in Arkansas. It was a wonderful old house, full of old time charm and décor, built square in the middle of a large farm. The original owners, or so I was lead to believe, were plantation owners...had slaves and the whole nine.

Anyway, the back of the house (where my brother and I's bedroom was, of course) was always a bit on the creepy side, though no bad ever happened there that I know of. In the back of this house was, as I said, my bedroom, another room that was to be my sisters if she were born before we moved again, which she wasn't, a bathroom and to the side the older "living room." One night, I was on my way to this "living room" area to do God knows what, and when I opened the double doors that led to said room, floating before me was an older lady in white gown, hair up (I think in a bun but my memory is a bit shaky). When I saw her, and she me, we both were startled, though I figure I was the more startled! :) Anyway, I noted before dashing away that she was moving away as well, though not as fast as I. And that was that.

When I finally got up the courage to tell my mom what I'd seen, she believed me 100 percent because she too had seen the lady. According to mom, she was sitting in the little reading nook that had at one time been a porch just off what was now the living room. IT had a large window facing the back yard, and mom loved sitting there in the natural light of day reading the hours away. Anyhow, something caused her to look up, and she noticed in the reflection off the glass an older lady behind her in the hallway (on the other side of the living room) slowly moving towards the bedroom that would have been my sisters. Not too sure what mom did at this point.

My dad had a different experience all together. He was in the laundry room one day doing some clothes when he heard the front door creak open. Now this door was notorious for opening with the slightest wind gust if one failed to push the door (an old wooden, heavy sucker) all the way to. Anyway, this door opened and my dad peaked around the corner. Standing just inside the door was a black figure. Dad's first reaction was that the dog had pushed the open and come in (we had a black lab mix at the time named Baby--quite the gentle and loving dog), but before he shouted at her to get out of the house, he realized that it wasn't the dog, unless the dog was standing on her hind legs and suddenly become featureless. Dad's reaction was one that I would suspect many people have under such circumstances...he looked away, then looked back. When he looked back the black figure as gone.

One night--I believe this was before any of the sightings--my mom and dad heard a loud bang coming from the attic. The bang, banged, then made the sound of rolling across the floor. Upon inspection, mom nor dad could find anything in the floor of the attic that would have made such a set of noises.

Before we ever moved in (this was a rent house), the people who lived in the place before us moved out because the lights used to flicker on them while they were eating in the dining room. Now, it should be said that the wiring in the old place was spotty at best--we nearly had an electrical fire once--but its odd that the lights never flickered on us. According to the landlord, the people before us were a bit on the messy side, and apparently somebody didn't like them too much.

After we moved out, my mom kept in touch with the newly weds who moved in to the guest house (yes, the place had a guest house...way cool, I know :) ) and one day, out of the blue, the wife of the couple contacted my mom and asked her if we had experienced anything odd while we lived on the property. Can't remember what mom told her, and I don't think the lady ever gave any details about what she meant by "strange things," but it seems to be not too far a stretch to imagine what she meant.

Last but not least, our neighbors told us that long ago, when slaves had worked the land, the dead were often buried where they fell to save time or whatever. Anyways, this neighbor told us that many people have claimed to see the ghosts of former slaves walking the roads near the fields.
