Hope nottie comes back. I'm feeling some Twilight Zone stuff going on somewhere. Hope it blows over or blows itself out, whatever it is. Folks are always going to have differences of opinion, some subtle, some not. Shouldn't descend into personal attacks, though I understand how and why it sometimes does in the heat of the moment. Usually folks are sorry about 5 mins later and wish they could take it back, as it goes in verbal barneys too. Dunno...maybe extend the edit timeout by ten minutes? Would that help?
'Cause I've been around boards where the mods got frazzled. Temporary closures only worked to a degree (helped the mods no end, though). Ultimately, things seemed to reach a point where everyone shared the same viewpoints, attitudes, etc and the result of that was no conversation. A topic would be posted and there'd be a few nods. Not much to talk about when you're all of a mind. Gets to the point where folks're just squabbling over semantics (and I do mean squabbling).
I'd hate to see something like that happen here. Even the people I don't agree with - or in some cases and occasions fundamentally disagree with - here...they're still 'tet-mates' and only through debate do we arrive at truth. Though flaming isn't debating (and outright flaming usually means you know the argument is lost; as in soccer/football, you only ever play the man when you can't match or handle his skill).

Aaanyway...I might not make it back by close of play today. If I don't...everybody have a good weekend. Mods, have a better one (and know that your efforts are much appreciated, even if the task seems to be or is a thankless one sometimes).
On the flip, mah frendz. ;)

It's probably harder to see the situation for what it really is unless you're spending time here daily. Hot topic areas are as Dana Jean mentioned earlier, expected to be Hot, the situation that has arisen on the SKMB recently was more than the usual misunderstandings in Hot Topic areas.

The ten-minute rule is there to assist moderators so that we may clear threads more quickly, having a longer window just ends up being a lot more work for us. Also, it comes down to people taking responsibility for themselves and maybe just trying (as much as possible) to take a breath before responding.

We think that the break will be good for everyone and that it might allow us all to once again appreciate what Stephen (& Marsha, Jordan and Brian too--so much work from this team) has provided for us.
I still believe that there isn't a site on the Internet quite like this one... we are so diverse, and we do celebrate this--we just need to remind ourselves to be respectful in our interactions.
I doubt people would speak face to face in the way that we have seen lately, doing so online should not be acceptable either.

I was on vacation and came back to read this thread...I am just happy that we have a place to chat. I remember in the old message board days, it was always shut down. However, could participate in the small group forums. I have read this is not a possibility. Just wanted to say thank you to all the Mods all their efforts.

LOL. I know what you mean about Jeeps. I’ve owned a Cherokee Limited, 2 Sports, 2 Liberty’s, and am now driving a Commander.

I spoke to the guy this morning. He has someone coming to look at the entire Star Wars collection. He doesn’t have the “redline” Hot Wheels here, but said he would bring up a box of assorted redlines from Philadelphia next Tuesday for me to look through and will come back on Friday. He said the ’68’s are easy to find, the ‘69’s not so much, and the ’76 and ’77 years are really tough to find anymore. He said he’ll only bring up ones in good condition. I won’t be in the office on Tuesday, so I’ll get a chance to see them on Wednesday and I'll post some pics for you.
