We all moan about a lot of adaptations to tv, especially SK's, and films too. But I've found, sometimes, the best way with a series of books is to read the books along with the series. With Game of Thrones I've read each book (I've still got the last one on my to read pile) ,just prior to watching the season. Which has worked a treat because the characters faces fit what I 'm reading. Obviously now as I'm reading them I'm seeing the actors in my head. I started watching the Las season the other day, and I quite felt liked already seen that episode.

I'm still holding out for a decent and scary adaptation of The Tommyknockers. ABC was supposed to be green lighting it (no pun intended) but it never got off the ground, I guess.

Actually I quite liked the series, considering the book is a bit of a (overlong) mess. They did a good job of condensing it and I liked the design of the aliens.
The screenplay was actually by Lawrence D. Cohen who also wrote Carrie, It and Straub's Ghost Story.

I felt Marg Helgenberger had a very similar role in Under the Dome.

I tend to like to read a book after a film or series better, because the other way around it's more likely to disappoint. Although I'm not gonna wait for a book to be filmed first. Clearly the film is gonna colour your book experience a bit, especially in imagining what the characters look like - but you're getting a lot of the background a movie doesn't have time for and often there are enough differences anyway.

With GoT i watched the series first, then i read the books. I think it was a good way to do it, because it was easier to understand the plot, imagine the world and places. But as i finished all the books, i had to realize, that the series was not even close to the quality of the novels, mostly because of the lot of changes in the plot.

But still, GoT is one of the best adaptations to TV, i`m sure about it. They still can save the series with a good season 6 :) Of course, i will watch it. Can`t wait for the Winds of Winter tho :(((

The Green Mile is a perfect adaption for me! Gave up watching Game of Thrones, for me it veered off the books too much.
The original The girl with a dragon tattoo was spot on as well, not the Daniel Craig one though. Xx
