Hey all! Just got the Boss' new CD, 'High Hopes,' in the mail yesterday! It was the Amazon.com exclusive 2-disc set (Original CD & a DVD of a 2013 full 'Born in the USA' performance at London). I was listening to it today & started noticing how Morello's guitar playing doesn't always fit into my idea of a Boss song, like 'Harry's Place'... Your thoughts on the CD or chatter on BRUUUUCCCCEEE? ;)

...like King as a writer, Springsteen has to continually evolve-while keeping some familiar elements, things are going to change in 4 plus decades-and it may not be completely to your liking-but you gotta be happy, that like Unca Steve-the Boss is still layin' it out there...

I got the cd a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I think Tom Morello's guitar works. Bruce has changed his sound a little the past couple of cds and I like it. The only stretch of Bruce's career that I was just "eh" about was the 90s. I think the period from "The Rising" to now has been great. As far as the new cd, the new studio version of "41 Shots" is amazing. I love the reworking of "The Ghost Of Tom Joad" too.

The change of sound may have something to do with Clarence Clemons passing. I've noticed that Bruce hasn't replaced him or maybe Tom Morello is Bruce's idea of replacing him. Bruce probably doesn't want to replace him for a while so the sound has changed some. Another example of this would be The Allman Brothers when Duane died. They replaced him with a piano player instead of a guitar player and had a very different sound for a while until they went back to the two guitar format.

My favorite Bruce song has got to be Born to Run - a friend of mine has a karaoke birthday party every year - and we always do that song together (and Lady Marmalade and Baby Got Back). Though I love Bruce's music as a whole, his talent for lyrics (or someone's talent if he doesn't write his own) is just amazing. There's a song for every mood. "Together, Wendy, we can live with the sadness, I'll love you with all the madness in my soul....."

Hard to believe I saw him an the E Street band in concert 40 years ago.

I saw him on The River tour and accidentally had some of the best seats I've ever had at an arena show. The concert sold out quickly and by the time I got to the ticket window (pre computer days), all that was left were obstructed view seats. I bought those seats and was kind of bummed out about it until I got to the arena and located the seats. They were on the side of the stage in the second row and there were no obstructions. I was on the side but I was very close. There were obstructions to the left and right of me but I had a great view.

I saw him in the early 70's at a small local movie theater that often had concerts on Tuesday evenings. They usually had groups on their way up or on their way down. I first heard his music that day on 8-track while cruising before the concert in a friends car. Bruce played the concert mostly sitting on the back of a comfy couch. I was in about the 5th row and remember Bruce had a scruffy beard and wore a flannel shirt and ski cap. I thought to myself this lumberjack can really rock. I remember Clarence was wearing his patented red suit which seemed out of place with the rest of the band. Springsteen and the E Street Band shot to fame soon after that.

Oh man, I just found out this thread was on the board! I'm 16 years old and I love the Boss for so many reasons! His songs are fantastic, and High Hopes is a brilliant album! Today I got his 'American Beauty' EP for Record Store Day, and it's songs that didn't quiet make it on High Hopes! The title track (American Beauty) is one of my favourite Springsteen songs already! I don't know how it didn't make it onto the album!

I was relistening to da Boss's live '75 to '85 five album set recently and was pleasantly surprised to hear in one song, Bruce trading solos with Stevie VanZandt.... he's not a bad guitar player, it's not just a prop....

That live collection is fantastic! I think it has one of the best versions of Thunder Road ever! It's amazing how Bruce can completely switch the sound of a song!

Born In The USA is one of my favourite albums by Bruce also, and I guess I would have loved it even more if I actually was born in the USA. It's crazy watching Tom Morellos guitar solo live from the new Ghost of Tom Joad - it's epic!

I was never much of a Boss fan til I heard "Trapped" on the radio, a recording I consider inspired. Then I stumbled upon a PBS showing of a Springsteen concert with The Seeger Singers. I dug the music enough for me to find a CD titled We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions. I think the type of music wasn't very popular with his fan base, but I love it...
