Castle Rock Entertainment is the company that Rob Reiner (and associates) formed when they decided to film King's novella The Body, which became Stand By Me. Castle Rock has been involved in alot of things in the entertainment industry. They may not be the powerhouse that SKG is (yet!), but they are well situated within the industry.

The name Castle Rock....it must be....A "king thing"
Yes ???
Castle Rock Entertainment is an American film and television production company founded in 1987[1] by Martin Shafer, director Rob Reiner, Andrew Scheinman, Glenn Padnick and Alan Horn. It is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Entertainment, which in turn is a unit of Time Warner.

Reiner named the company in honor of the fictional Maine town that serves as the setting of several stories by Stephen King (which was named after the fictional Castle Rock in Lord of the Flies), after the success of his film Stand by Me, which was based on The Body, a novella by King.[2]

... this is from Wikipedia Tiny (hope that helps!) :indecisiveness:

DARN IT!!! why cant they make the 7 part movie-TV show(s) of THE GUNSLINGER !
WHY ?.... why is this project SOOOOO impossible ???
Money is a huge factor- it would probably end up being the most expensive project taken on by a film studio. I think the studios are scared that since it's not everyone's top favorite King story, even among die-hard fans, that it might be a flop. It's not like the Lord Of The Rings series, where there was already massive amounts of readers familiar with those books. Alot of 'regular' King fans can't even make it past the first book (even though they are turning their backs on one of the best stories ever written). Hopefully someone like Peter Jackson will be willing to take on the challenge. He would do an awesome job! Personally I'd like to see it go to Christopher Nolan of the newest Batman films.

Raises hand - guilty as charged! I did persevere and get through the Gunslinger and not_nadine keeps imploring me to carry on. I do own the next few books in the series so I promise I will give the next book a try, just as soon as I finally finish "Under the Dome" - I am on a reread of this one at the moment.

I think Jon Favreu could do a hell of a job. He 'gets' Westerns and fantasy, and I think the humour would come through better than with Jackson or Nolan.

Neesy, I really don't like THE GUNSLINGER at all, but I loved the next three books--WIZARD & GLASS is in my top 10 of all books ever--and like the rest just fine. Most of what you need to know from TG is repeated in the other books, so not a lot of loss in skipping it, if it's a stumbling point.
