Hey everybody,

I've decided to post in this message board to ask a question, just to see everyones thought on the idea.

First I should introduce myself, I'm a 3D artist from New Zealand, recently moved to London, having not too long read the Dark Tower series, I loved every bit of it, having a vivid imagination the ideas and scenes throughout the book were amazing to visualise.

I'm puzzled as to why there isn't much fan art/creative works inspired by the books.

This is where my question comes in, I know there have been talks for a long time of doing a movie/tv adaptation of the story but as far as I can tell this isn't happening anytime soon, would there be any major issues of a small group of people creating a non-profit short animated film in honour of the books?
Would King be the ruling authority on it being allowed, or the publishers of the book, is there a film studio that now has the only rights to creating any visual representation of the story?

I am asking this because a small group of us who are fans of the story and also all talented VFX artists want to created a animation dedicated to the books, but don't want to have to pull it down after spending months creating a short film in our own time.

thoughts?

There would be a major problem with doing it and would be considered a copyright violation.

But how could it be so different to doing a piece of fan art, which you can find around the place? is it because it is more organised or is it purely because it will be art in motion rather than a still?

Thanks for the quick reply.

It's a film which makes it a whole different matter as someone legally holds the rights to do a film adaptation.

Gutted, it would have been a fun thing to do, gotta love copyright...

Now to make something entirely different, and hope that one day the peeps who own the rights make something worth while without letting dollar signs cloud their vision.

Thanks again for the quick reply :)

Sorry to be the one to burst your bubble. :smile2:

Stick around--lots of Dark Tower fans here who would be happy to share your DT enthusiasm in discussions.

Personally, I'd like to see a movie adaptation directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, etc). I think the rights are the property of Ron Howard, who can pick any director he wants, including himself.
