I loved it. It's Marvel. You know what you're getting. It's a pretty straightforward origin tale, understandable given that some of Strange's back-story was stolen by David Goyer for Batman Begins. But Marvel's best magic trick continues to be their stellar casting. Mads Mikkelson was actually on my wish list for playing Stephen Strange, but who could argue with Benedict Cumberbatch? The guy sounds great even with an American accent. There's one scene in particular between him and Rachel McAdams that shows just what a cruel assh*le this guy is, and I'm glad they kept it in because he's not exactly the likeable jerk that is Tony Stark. I'm also happy for the casting of Benedict Wong, whose fantastic work in Netflix's Marco Polo is being criminally overlooked. It's also the first Marvel that should to be watched in 3D, especially if you're a fan of Steve Ditko's mind-bending art from the 1960s. The future of Marvel cinema is in good hands with my favourite Sorcerer (sorry Gandalf).
