I've had the same issue with my Kindle in the past. I have let them know I feel buying a reader was a real waste of money and a few friends who were considering getting one, I advised against it. Or rather, I advised they look at the price of downloading books before buying one.
To late to edit my post.
I actually meant my Kobo. When I decided to buy an e-reader it was for ease of carrying AND to reduce cost. So I shopped around and comparable quality Kobo was cheaper than Kindle and in Canada Kobo downloads were cheaper. Added bonus, I could download from the library.
Then, Kobo raised the price of purchases AND the library changed who carries their downloads (might be phrasing that wrong). Now to download, I have to first put it on my computer, then transfer it to my Kobo. And that doesn't always work, and the stupid book gets returned while I'm trying to download. Especially aggravating when it's something I've had to wait a long time for.
