Ever notice how frequently SK mentions Enid, Oklahoma in his works? It was mentioned 3 times in Bazaar of Bad Dreams. It's been mentioned in several other books of his as well. I've lived in Enid off and on for many years. What is it about the place that sparks his imagination? Has he ever mentioned it? I can tell you from experience it's nothing special. It's an average Anywhere USA town in the middle of nowhere.

Maybe because it is such a weird sounding place? Enid - sounds a bit like a girl's name (or like an old maiden aunt - Aunt Enid on your Dad's side who never got married). :eek-new::laugh:

Exactly why it's a great place to set an uncanny tale. Most horror/suspense/even fantasy works best on a small scale (have you noticed that even scare stories set in cities usually take place in a small area: one house, or apartment building, or neighborhood, or car, etc.). We expect chaos in the big bad world, but having happen in a nice, normal, average place ('home is the worst place of all) is unsettling. :)
