Simple thread, really. My favorite anti-hero in all of fiction has to be none other than the King of the Monsters himself, Godzilla.
Once an ordinary dinosaur, his life and home were devastated as a result of fallout from American nuclear tests off the coast of Japan. Because of this, Godzilla is extremely cynical, misanthropic, and borderline-sociopathic; indeed, his offspring (Minya in some continuities, Godzilla Jr. in others) are the only things keeping him nominally on the side of good... and even then, it could be argued that the bind is tenuous at best. Sometimes, he may begrudgingly help the stinking humans for a morally positive reason, if only to a point. On occasions, he's clearly in it for some ulterior purpose (like revenge). In either case, Godzilla's methods of "heroism" are questionable, if not downright brutal. To sum it up, he's one hardcore character.
