Yeah that is what I am talking about. Helping his hometown, being a rich democrat, that alone is rare:blues:.
I remember when 9/11 happened and it was showing on the TV I was home by myself and a kid at that. I was sure that america was going to be invaded and at anytime war was going to break out in the streets. I was waiting for the war to start like we learned in history class. I was waiting for bombs to drop out of the sky and buildings to crumble around me. I pictured what I learned in school about concentration camps and the harshness of war. I knew this was it. I grabbed a pen and just started writing. I wrote what was happening. I didn't know who the bad guys were I just knew one building got hit and then while I was watching another got hit. Grown ups were running in the street. Screaming and covered with gray ash. I had no one to ask is this going to be okay. I thought that if they take over, if I die, if everything as we know it comes to an end maybe someday someone will find what I wrote and know what happened.
Looking back on it now it seems silly. But at the time that was my reality. The reason I bring it up is because that helped shape my generation the way JFK shaped a generation. We had our war but we had it in a time when media was so polluted there was no truth. They had watergate we had the patriot act.
And here we have this guy that has been a writer through it all. Not only breaking literary bounds in his horror and emotional work but in works like 11/22/63. There will never be another Stephen King. There will be horror books, There will be emotional books. But never someone like this. Don't get me wrong I am not saying he is like JFK what I am saying is that this is history it has already happened and most people only realize it is important history when the time has passed. I want something to hold onto and say this is mine. This is my part of it all. This is something that was a part of my life before being shocked into reality and after it. This is my piece of something that lit up a part of my brain that no one else in my family has. This is a part of my experiences with it all. This is something that made me feel emotions that I had never felt before. And I will keep it forever. Because money comes and goes but history lasts forever. SO if I never meet the guy I can live with it. If I can't get a signed book I can live with that too. It is just a goal of mine since I have realized the significance this all had in my life.

Then you have this author who wrote 11/22/63. The same author who wrote things like IT and Hearts in Atlantis. You remember your times of complete and udder shock and horror at the world around you. But
If you read Doctor Sleep there is a part where he mentions 9/11 (and the members of The True Knot)

I know what you mean about the horror of that day - I am not of your generation and I am in Canada, not the US, but September 11, 2001 had a terrible effect on me. My Mom had actually died earlier that year and I was caring for Dad who had Alzheimer's (so already under stress).

It DID seem like the beginning of a Third World War (almost) - especially when I heard a plane was heading for the Pentagon.

There is just no way we can prevent the sale of tickets to people who intend to sell them as we have no way of knowing that ahead of time and no one is going to admit they're buying the ticket to make a profit. My understanding was that Bridgton Books was only going to be selling one ticket per person to try to reduce the chances of making that easier and so that people can't buy blocks of tickets. Doesn't make it any less infuriating but until people stop buying them and creating a market, it won't stop and we both know the likelihood of that happening. :smile2:

He might say a few words before the signing begins but this is just a straight signing. They moved it to the movie theater as the book store wasn't large enough to accommodate that many people and this way they wouldn't have lines out on the street. The book signing is to help the book store. It's a small independent and the sales of the books for the signing will be a big deal for them. This was something Steve set up to help his hometown store much more than for any increase to his sales numbers.

I am thrilled that the bookstore is limiting the tickets and requiring ID.While standing in line for the Revival signing at 3 am( in Maine.....in November) I was so mad! I did not have fans behind me OR in front of me.The group of men in front of me had been bussed in to buy as many books as they could and I believe they were one of three groups. One of them started talking to me and said," I don't understand why people get all excited over meeting Stephen King.I don't read his stuff but like some of his movies." I told him I was one of those people who get all excited and proceeded to ignore him.It made me so irrate that true fans missed out because of a bunch of greedy people! Then there was a man at the counter DEMANDING he get five books as promised(before they changed it) and guess who he was with? The group of men in front of me! Kudos to Bridgton Books and I cannot WAIT! I hope I do not freeze like Ralphie meeting Santa like I did last time:( I have regretted not saying what I wanted ever since.

I just really wanted to thank him for all of the years of entertainment and joy he has brought to constant readers. All I choked out was a "Hi."

Hey I am sure he could see it in your face! or maybe if your hands were all shaky he knew. I think authors like him probably never really think I AM THE BEST EVER IN HISTORY END OF DISCUSSION. Because if they did then they would probably get lazy in their writing. He probably gets that feeling write before a book release of "what if this is the one that doesn't sale" I mean that is what any normal person would do. BUT if I put myself in his shoes I would probably think to myself "I can't believe this person waited out in the cold to get a signed copy, I still got it;;D

That would be good.

Ask him if he has any extra Sox tickets kicking around the house. He might not want to go see them since they're stinking Fenway up. I'll be happy to use them as I would hate to see them go to waste.....:D

One thing that I compliment this event on is not making people stand in line for hours on end with no guarantee they will get a signed copy. The ticket approach is the way to go. It ensures that if you travel to the event, you are going to get a signed book without having to camp out in the parking lot. I've seen parents with small kids and people in wheelchairs suffering in these book signing lines for hours. Often in the cold or heat. There is no reason to put folks through that. Buy a ticket and show up is the way to go.

The Bridgton Event is in the top 5 of organized Stephen King signings. the line moved quickly but everyone was very happy with their 12 seconds of face time with Mr. King. He was funny, cheerful and very very kind to sign 500 books for US! I would not have done anything different.

Thank You MR KING for the opportunity to get one of my new all time favorite books signed.

Ignore the haters and complainers about people selling their books on EBAY. It is a very very small fraction of the people that attend your events! I have attended 15 events and have never sold a signed book! I treasure all of them. I have several groups of people that know me and I got to know while waiting in line for our signed book and short opportunity to say HI! I have new sk friends.

PLease continue to sign books as long as you are having fun doing so. and then just a few more after that!

Thank YOU! SK. Still excited two days later at getting to meet you again!
