Our last flu season here in Alberta was very deadly. So many people died. Here is a guide to help you understand the difference between the flu and the common cold. Remember, the cold hits you above the neck mostly.

Thanks - I read the article about the 'old wives tales' too (it gives a link). My Mom had so many of those. I miss her old stories and funny little quirks.

...and what drives me battier than normal are those thousands who think when they get the runs or launch some Technicolor yawns-that they "have the flu"....NO YOU DON"T!!..."Flu" is short for influenza....a more respiratory related virus, without the orifice torturing side-effects...

Sounds like the noro virus or "winter vomiting bug". I think I'd rather have the flu. I hate that thing. Thankfully I don't get either very often, I was a child the last time I had proper flu. I always get colds though.

I remember when i had the flu some years back. My wife was away, gone to relatives in the south and i was feeling horrible in my loneliness. After two days she comes home, takes one look at me and says "It is so typical you. To get really ill when i'm not around and can take care of you. You should know better!"
