I had a salami sandwich earlier today. I hadn't eaten salami in a while.

While eating it, I kept biting into this tough stringy thing that seemed to be wrapped around the slices. I seem to have a memory that sometimes salami has that, and that it is basically okay to eat (although it is tough to eat).

I ate some of it, some of it I did not. But I wanted to know, because I don't remember...is this plastic? String? Or is it a natural part of the meat? The slices were too thin to take whatever it was off, but I just wanted to know if my memory is correct that this is normal on salami and that it won't cause any problems.

You most likely ate tightly shrink wrapped plastic. You have to make a shallow cut longways and peel it off before cutting into the salami. Like pepperoni.

Thanks for all the replies and the link with the information. The link seems to indicate it's not too bad a thing to ingest, but I'm going to try to remove it as suggested. I'll have to mention to the deli person next time about removing it in total for me.

Never heard of cheese wax, but it does sound better than salami plastic, certainly.

A good decent to high quality salami might have a natural casing, not so much, not so much...salamis don't seem to brag about wearing natural case like snausage like stuff, like say the lowly hot dog, them sensitive clothes 'ho's want it, need it, insist on you knowin' it, they're vain that way
Very interesting allegory of sausages and Hos! ;) ;-D

Oh right, I was thinking about that (mold?) brie skin that you don't know what to do with

Yums Melty, sometimes covered with fruits and things. I avoid it and go for the middle.

When it comes to Cheese my stomach can handle anything. I am a cheesemaniac . Cheese is just another kind of candy. Found an exquisite Cheese this easter. A Swiss nusskäse. It was Cheese but had a definite taste of walnuts. Strong too. Great. Must buy it again.

Sounds nice. Did you find a wine to pair it with? I miss those times.

Why thank you so very much!...but I recommend the Metts, with sauteed peppers & onions, a bit of Bavarian 'kraut, hot, and a goodly slather of our finest Dusseldorf, on a slightly steamed then lightyly grilled Sunny bun;-) ...now that right there is some good eatin'!

Now all I have to do is get enough money to travel to your place. Can't send good food via DHL...

I've switched over to turkey hot dogs, turkey bacon, turkey and/or chicken sausages - I have a Muslim friend who will not eat pork. Just for a lark, thought I would cut out all pork products to see how that feels.

Bonus - less fat and therefore hopefully a better weight loss result. :run_pig:

(It was hard to give up the real bacon and of course the yummy Easter ham)
