Another thread talked about how many books King sells. Supposedly, this article gives a figure of 2.7 million domestic copies between June 2017/18. I'm going to assume that combines physical and digital, as well as new releases and catalog.
I'm not sure how accurate Forbes' methodology is (it seems like a lot of guessing goes on). However, in King's case, based on things he has said in the past, his stat seems like a possibly close number. But I really don't know. The methodology does imply that some authors were interviewed, but I am going to assume King did not talk to the editors. I can believe he earned a lot of money from the movie It, though.
Not to write too many words on this, but I find it odd that Patterson did so much better than King, based on the stats presented. Then again, maybe It the movie, as well as international sales, skewed things...
