I cannot compare King's books to the movies and series that have been done. I enjoy them all--although the books will always hold a special place in my heart before any movie because that is my medium of choice. King paints such believable characters and weaves relationships that you can't help but wrapping your heart around. I still think of Fran and Stu as people I know--or knew at one point. No other author has ever made me suspend disbelief and become swallowed within a book.
The first time I saw a Stephen King movie, I was disappointed (I won't say which one) but it was the only one because I realized that it would be impossible for me to ever enjoy a King movie if I compared it to the book. Books and movies are apples and oranges; you cannot compare them.
So now, I read the book and the book never coexists with the film/series/tv show that corresponds with it. That's filed in my film/series/tv folder. I watched IT #1 and loved it--an A all the way because it is a GREAT movie. It's not a King book; it is an adaptation of King's book.
I also LOVE Mr. Mercedes, although there are many changes to characters, names, plot, etc. It will never compete with my love for the written Hodges Trilogy but on a different and satisfying (perhaps not quite as--but as I said, I am a book lover first and foremost) level. JMO! And have an awesome day.
