For an active reaction, benedryl is what works best for me. I used to take Reactine to prevent reactions...prior to figuring out exactly what was causing them. I'm one of the weirdos that scratch testing doesn't work on. One time, I tested positive to everything tested. Another time, negative to everything, even the histamine.

I ended up taking two Advil and passing out for a few hours. Now, it's bedtime, and I'm a bit wired. I did manage to eat some dinner though.

I do feel better today, though not quite 100%.

I must have still looked pretty bad last night, because my husband decided to work from home. He knows reactions can cause me to be even more of an airhead than usual. ;) Seriously though, he has seen me lose consciousness and do my Linda Blair impersonation (body convulsing so much I shook the bed off the floor). I think these things look even scarier from the outside.

I need to get a bit of work done, but I'm still getting tired rather quickly so I'm taking it slow.

I hate allergies!

I am so careful. I read labels, and reread labels. I call companies. I send e-mails to companies. And about once every 18 months....something slips in somewhere.

Tonight I cooked a prepurchased pulled pork. I didn't even eat it. I just cooked it and breathed in the fumes.

And this is probably the worst reaction I've had in about 10 years. I was debating...epi-pen or hospital....but it started to fade, so I opted for neither. Waited about three hours, and since no bi-phasic reaction I finally took a benedry. (Benedryl can hide a life threatening reaction.)

I had read the label. It was safe. But while I lay down, my husband looked up the company....they make other stuff with sesame seeds.

This reaction was from breathing something cross contaminated. I was going to eat that stuff.

Did I say, I HATE allergies.

So....tomorrow I shall be doing the benedryl crash.
And writing more letters I hope. Get well and Merry Christmas, mal.
