I hate allergies!

I am so careful. I read labels, and reread labels. I call companies. I send e-mails to companies. And about once every 18 months....something slips in somewhere.

Tonight I cooked a prepurchased pulled pork. I didn't even eat it. I just cooked it and breathed in the fumes.

And this is probably the worst reaction I've had in about 10 years. I was debating...epi-pen or hospital....but it started to fade, so I opted for neither. Waited about three hours, and since no bi-phasic reaction I finally took a benedry. (Benedryl can hide a life threatening reaction.)

I had read the label. It was safe. But while I lay down, my husband looked up the company....they make other stuff with sesame seeds.

This reaction was from breathing something cross contaminated. I was going to eat that stuff.

Did I say, I HATE allergies.

So....tomorrow I shall be doing the benedryl crash.

I take benadryl every day because I get a serious reaction to something unknown. It swells me up quickly and then by blood pressure drops....according to the paramedics. I have an epi pen, too. I am allergic to oysters....cannot be in the next room even from them without breaking out....but that is at least a known factor. Hope you feel better soon luvey.

If there's an up-side, it's that you were able to manage your symptoms without emergency services, and that you didn't eat that stuff.
I wonder if the company is liable for not labeling cross-contamination possibilities.

Get some rest and take care of yourself.

I have a love/hate relationship with benedryl. For me, it acts as a depressant, so I hate it. But it has saved my life...so I love it.

Nope. In both Canada and the US there is NO law requiring the labelling of cross contamination. In Canada if Sesame seeds are an actual added ingredient, even as a component of something like "spices" it must be labeled. If actual led ADDED. in the US, it's not required if it's under a certain amount.

I should have saved some and called the CFIA. They will pick it up and examine it...that's how recalls happen. But, I didn't think to tell my husband. He threw everything out after they finished eating, so it would all be contaminated.

I hope you sleep well and feel better! Thank God it wasn't worse! (I take Benadryl every day, it's one of the "safe, tried and true" drugs IMO - I don't take it for food allergies though.)
I take Benadryl daily as well... I'm allergic to cat dander, but I love my fur-babies. Benadryl has worked wonderfully for many many many years!

So difficult to eat something you didn't prepare yourself when you have life threatening allergies. I've a friend who nearly died because the batter on his fish and chips was prepared with a minute bit of sesame flour. I hope you feel better soon.
