I read the Gunslinger many years ago and couldn't wait for Stephen King to finish the next book in the series. Then came a long dry spell... it went on forever... I have since reread The Dark Tower series, listened to the audio books, twice, and now I purchased the comic books. Yes, I'm obsessed with The Dark Tower. With every book the story gets better and better. I think Roland is lurking in the back of Stephen King's mind. Maybe looking for a door or a thinny to make his appearance. I sure hope so.

I've read Stephen King books and watched his movies for over 25 years. He has proven to be "The King" in my eyes. But... I didn't like the Rimbauer story and later found out Stephen King didn't write it. Today I finished listening to Joyland and found it quite boring until the end. I really don't think Stephen King wrote this story either. What's going on?

I liked it as well - he is getting older and maybe is a bit more mellow now?

It is more of a tearjerker love story to me, with a bit of mystery thrown in. Well, actually more of a coming of age story for the main character. I actually cried a bit at the end (so shoot me!) :grinning::laugh:

...Welcome!...and as we will all concur(those that haven't fanboy'ed or girled themselves out of reality), it's cool to not care for some of his work....the menu is there, with plenty of appetizers and main courses, you just have to find those that are tasty to you...as far as the Rose Red story...The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red is a 2001 novel by Ridley Pearson...

This is true - you don't have to like EVERYTHING he has written - for example when I first read "The Gunslinger" I actually found my mind wandering at parts of it and I had to force myself to bring my attention back to the book!

So - to each his own (or her own).

Strangely enough, books II and III have been great! (I wonder why the first book did not grab my attention?)

Neesy, It didn't grab mine as much as the other ones, but just wait, it keeps getting better!

....the writing style was, if you'll excuse the pun, world's different than anything we'd become accustomed to-and it also was generated by a very young man with an as yet-unrefined but brilliant way with words and plot...
