South American prisons are quite a bit different than what we think of in the US. I like to watch the National Geographic show called "Locked Up Abroad" and they often have shows that involve prisons in South America. It seems that the prisoners are put inside and the guards basically hang out outside to make sure no one gets out and they don't really care what goes on inside. Sometimes prisoners have their families in there with them. It's pretty strange compared to what we are used to here. It probably doesn't take too many guards to be seduced to break out.
