June 21, 2015 - Parts of southern Saskatchewan are under severe thunderstorm watch following a pattern of stormy weather in the region over the past few days.

Parts of southern Saskatchewan are under severe thunderstorm watch following a pattern of stormy weather in the region over the past few days.

Storms are expected late Saturday afternoon and through the evening in extreme southeastern Saskatchewan. The Weather Network meteorologist Tyler Hamilton says southwestern Manitoba will likely see supercell development into the afternoon once the atmosphere destabilizes.

The greatest threats will be strong winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall," Hamilton adds.

"The storm is set to track into the U.S. during the evening hours, where isolated storms are expected today for our southern neighbours," Hamilton says. Winnipeg will likely see heavy rain overnight Saturday as the storm moves east, with parts of southern Manitoba to see heavier precipitation.

Hamilton notes that a surface low pressure is developing stateside, which will likely bring thunderstorms to Ontario in the late evening Monday. "[W]ith it, the potential for possible severe thunderstorms, with strong winds and heavy rain currently being the biggest threat.

Parts of Saskatchewan have seen stormy weather and hail recently, and Saturday evening's storm might bring even more hail, Hamilton says. "They'll be roughly the size of loonies or toonies."

This system will continue to strengthen during the day Monday, passing into southern Ontario. Hamilton says the storms will tracking into southern Quebec Tuesday, bringing strong winds to the region.
