Does the company/person you have plowing the driveway also sand/ de-ice them? One would think it would go hand in hand.
No, the plowing is just a seasonal moonlighting job for him. I found a company that does it, though, and they'll be sanding/salting the driveway today. Part of the problem we have is that there are evergreen trees on either side of most of it so between that and the angle of the sun this time of year it's shaded most of the time.

Once I get home, I'll just drive into the garage and straight into the house. SO used about 30 pounds of ice melt yesterday but concentrated on the entry to the driveway at the cul-de-sac as there's a slight incline there and no way to get a good running start when you are heading in. Going to do some research to find a company that will sand driveways.
If you find someone that will sand your driveway be sure they don’t use the inexpensive all-purpose or masonry sand. They aren’t as gritty as playground or sandbox sand, and it’s the grittiness you need to provide traction. Another alternative would be to apply magnesium chloride pellets to your driveway before the ice comes. It’s safer because you can apply it when the surface isn’t icy, and it gives off heat when coming in contact with ice.

I'm at the office and will be while they do this so, unfortunately, can't be there to supervise. My driveway is about 425 feet long and the ice is already there which is why I'm having a sand/salt mix. Most years it isn't a big deal but we've been having warmer than usual days with rain or snow melt followed by cold ones so the ice is an issue.

That's one long driveway. A sand/salt mix is good, and should do the trick.
