I am planning a trip to New England next year, first time over to the US.

Maine
I live in Maine, right near Bangor and definitely suggest doing the SK Tour, like Craig mentioned above. I've taken a couple of friends on it and Stu is a great guy with some great stories. Once you've gotten your King fix I suggest hitting up Bar Harbor. It's beautiful and a tourist hot spot. If you have time do a whale watch, the waters are iffy in June but if you get to see some whales it's well worth it. Bring warm clothes if you decide to do that. The sea is cold! Check out Acadia National Park if you want some great scenery or hiking. Camden and Belfast are great spots to shop and be on the ocean. Skip Augusta, seriously. It's the capitol but there is nothing there to see. Go to Portland or Freeport instead. You also MUST have a whoopie pie! ;-D If you have time and are going to Massachusettes, Boston is a no brainer but if you want some neat history Salem is awesome and you can do it in a day. Have a great trip!!!! keep us posted!!
Great advice--I'd second all this especially the part about Augusta. ;-D

See now, this feels like a bit of a tricksterish ploy to try and get me to eat Seafood. (which I detest... yar, you definitely know with that one revelation that I am... "from away", hmm?)

I mean... look. "Ben & Bill's CHOCOLATE Emporium".
& then the thing about the lobster... in the ice-cream.

:m_curious:
Well if you ever cross the pond I will take you to this very place. I think you might pass out because it is, quite literally, wall to wall chocolate. You will also try the lobster ice scream. That's not a question. ;;D
Detest seafood?? My eyes!! My eyes!!

Ice Scream...? if it is Lobster flavoured well then yar, there'll be noise... at the very minimum. :biggrin2:

The chocolate however... mmmmm, wait. :icon_eek:
...you nearly got me then, I just knew it was a ploy!

Does Ben & Jerry's still offer tours? My sister and I went there and it was cool (ha ha).
Speaking of Maine, we went there, almost to the northern tip, in one of the hottest summers on record, and there was frost on the tent the next morning. It was refreshing.Waitangi Quail, lower file size.jpg
My sister and her friend went to NZ and sent some pix back. That and Australia and Hawaii are definitely on my bucket list. My dad's grandfather died in Australia (He was reputedly a bad boy; it runs in the family, except for me. I have always been a little angel...).
