Okay. I may not be the brightest bulb in the sign, but I never dreamt it would be so hard to find an agent to get my memoir published. I don't want to self-publish, I just want the book out in the world. It's a lung cancer survivor story, and though I may now be immortal once again, time is of the essence. Someone else needs to know what I know. Maybe lots of people need to know this stuff. Not to sound whiney or anything, but cancer is a real buzz kill and the whole process can be tricky to negotiate.

Can anyone help me? I just can't seem to find anyone to query, who doesn't want a few thousand dollars. This is likely a one time deal, and all I need is an agent who can get this story a lot of exposure.

Sometimes after chemo a person has difficulties thinking/doing things like they used to. I'm in that spot and can't seem to get any further than my manuscript and query letter.
Thanks for any help out there.

No legitimate agent will ask for ANY amount of money up front. They make their money by selling your book to a publisher and taking a cut (15-20% is the current standard).

Here's a place you might start looking -- but always research the agent before you sign anything with them. Memoir Agents | WritersDigest.com
