Look in his eyes... he has seen much. RIP Lanier Phillips.

I remember reading about that a long time ago while he was still alive. What he did with his life because of his experience during the war was inspirational, and I take pride in the people of our Province who recognized him for what he was - just another human being who needed their help.

you should be,too. I am so proud of Newfoundland. This story is wonderful.
U.S. sailor never forgot Newfoundland hospitality - Winnipeg Free Press

Good story staropeace (I notice it is from my city's paper, too!)

The Americans on planes who got stranded in Newfoundland on 9/11 also commented on the hospitality of the Newfoundlanders in Gander who opened their homes to them.

Nice bunch of folks - I must get down there some day to visit - Andy would love to take a trip to Newfoundland so he can hear all those people who sound like "Paddies" to him!

Best story I’ve heard in awhile.

We have come a long way since those days. I’ve always taught my kids to disregard what the eyes see and instead listen to what the heart feels and what the mind knows is right. I live in an area without much diversity. But my one teenage daughter’s two best friends are black and white, and the younger teenager’s two best friends are Hispanic and Arab. Under my roof they’re all treated and looked upon exactly the same... they’re all equally freakin’ crazy!
