I'm not sure I get that I must be missing something, but doesn't the word "for"have to be in there to make the guy not a psycho?

A comma between cooking and my. As in "I like cooking, my family and my pets."

The statement without the commas reads that he likes cooking his family and his pets, not that those are three separate things he likes. It should have been written: I like cooking, my family, and my pets. The comment below it is pointing out that he should have used commas in order not to sound like a psycho who likes to cook his family and pets.Still not getting it,the way you have it,doesn't that mean he's cooking his family and pets? Haha Ms Mod thank you for restoring order to my universe! For some reason it just wasn't making sense to me until you put it like that, I was leaving off one of the commas..
