I was so angry and disappointed at the slaughtering of "Under The Dome" by the TV series, that I wanted to join this message board to please urge the best author in the world to NOT let them ruin "11/22/63" by making it into more than a three or four night miniseries. It worked for "The Dead Zone" because of the type of story (even though I was a little disappointed at some of the changes over time in that series too).
However, "Under The Dome" has been sliced, cut, changed and so forth so much that the only recognizable character is the Dome. And that doesn't even act as it did in the book. The TV series has desecrated one of my favorite King novels.
Please do not do this to "11/22/63". PLEASE! If you want to make it into a TV program, then please, produce it similarly as you did "The Stand" in the early '90s -- a four-night event miniseries.
I always like to see King's novels adapted to film so I can compare the two entities. I was looking forward to "Under The Dome" from the first promo. The moment I realized that it was going to be a long running, multiple season regular series, I knew that it was going to be ruined. I originally thought it would be a miniseries. The novel has a beginning, middle and end. The miniseries got the beginning right, then skewed off the REAL story into trash that I can't wait to end.
I know that Mr. King is the Executive Producer for "Under The Dome" and has somewhat agreed to the changes (which he stated in interviews). But I believe he is NOT happy with the bastardization of his original work and is suffering silently for promotional purposes.
Please Mr. King....don't sell out "11/22/63"!!! PLEASE!!!!
I hope you have future plans to re-do "Under The Dome" as you did "The Shining" in the last decade. You fixed the errors from the first movie and made it more true to your novel.
I'd send all of the digital copies, and all filmed copies involved, scripts, director's notes, etc and anything that has to do with this awful version of "Under The Dome" to that alternate present of "11/22/63" to the Province of Maine and let it die in a reset.
Thank you for letting me rant.

Welcome to the board. While I somewhat agree with you I am enjoying UTD as something very different from the book. I REALLY don't want to see 11/22/63 get the same treatment. 11/22/63 has actual historical events, Jake and Sadie not withstanding, so I would like it if the story was a bit more strictly adhered to.

1. Welcome to the Board. Really.
2. I will be *so* disappointed if all you do is become a member just to rant about UTD and then split.
3. You have to admit that the idea of a town being trapped by a dome has generated a metric ton of ideas for plot lines and what-ifs. Free up your mind to the possibility that Mr. King didn't cover all the townspeople's calamities in one volume....and that the series writers are doing that. Bonus.
4. The rest of the plot lines aren't trash; they're merely *new* plot lines. And some of the best parts of King works involve paranormal stories, so....why are these new plots trash? I think they're interesting. They might not be highbrow, but they're above pedestrian and certainly make for more interesting TV viewing than some of the ridiculous "summer TV" fare out there like The Bachelorette or Wipeout.

Again, welcome to the Board.

I must agree with you that Under the Dome bears very little resemblance to the book. It is so far out and different that I am just trying to enjoy it as a stand alone project, without trying to compare it to the book.

wolf and raven.jpg p.s. Maine is not a province by the way - it's a State!

(oh wait - now that I think about it, when Jake returned to the future (so to speak) hadn't Maine joined Canada?)

Welcome!
Here's what I do when I don't want to see something: I don't put the TV on that channel.
Especially if it's one of my favorite books being TV-itized...I like to keep the pictures in my head and not have them replaced by TV images.:apthy:
