I have noticed you get the "New Posts" option when you are logged in, and "Recent Posts" when you are not. Things seem to missing when you are logged in, and you get to see more threads when you are not. It might be those dreaded Hot Topics, but I’m not sure. Some sort of divine plan, or just screwing with us? ;)

It currently says there is 12,129 new posts. Probably because I haven't spent much time here, and I don't get to many of the threads.

I don't spend time here not logged in, because I just stay logged in. Therefore I haven't noticed anything missing...

LOL... I log in and out, because I see more posts when I' logged out, then log in if I want to post something. Funny, when I'm logged in it states 15,468 new posts. I doubt over 3,000 posts got added in a few short minutes. But then it went to 15,467 then 15,466... Que the music from the Twilight Zone. :O_O:

Those are posts new to you, and not necessarily new since you were last logged in. They are all the posts that have been made since the last time you opened the thread they are in.

If you click New Posts, first it shows threads with new posts since your last visit, there is a break...or a line, and below that is threads with posts you have not read, but not new since your last visit.

I assume somewhere is a "mark all as read" button. I just haven't bothered looking for it.

Or else the posts you aren't seeing when you are logged in are maybe because those posters have hit the 'ignore' button for you?:rage: I've noticed that before I log in it might say that there are 12 members on line and two of them disappear when I log in. So, if I am being 'ignored' then I must have done something right, right? ::P

Or, they may be in "not visible" mode. Before you log in do you actually see the names of the 12 members or is it just the number?

Recent Posts are all posts made in the last 48 hours (or thereabouts). New Posts are the number of new posts within threads that you haven't opened. 2-3 threads (depending upon the thread) could definitely account for that number of posts going poof since the number listed in New Posts is an aggregate of posts, regardless of thread.

Thanks for the info Jordan. So if someone wants to see all recent posts, including posts in threads you've already opened recently, they would need to log out?
If a post comes in after you've viewed a thread, it does appear (almost) immediately as a New Post. Recent Posts do not take into account anything you have look at viewed and will only list posts chronologically.
