Hi all! I'm new to this forum but not new to SK!
I was diagnosed with a chronic illness at the age of 13. I spent most of my teenage years in and out of hospital. The meds would (and still do!) keep me awake while the illness took all energy away meaning I was in bed a lot but unable to sleep. Because of the possible issues of my illness and my meds I was always placed on an adult ward and that's where one of the nurses kindly gave me his book to read as I had finshed all mine and at 4am bored and fidgetty. It was Pet Semetary.
Up until recently there's not one SK book I haven't read at least twice. Some, like Pet Semetary, have been read so often I've had to purchase new copies as they've fallen apart!
That nurse will never know how much he changed my life that morning. Stephen King has kept me occupied and sane through many hours of infusions, insomnia and isolation.
I have virtually every book SK has published, I'm missing some of the newer ones due to my health getting very bad. (was told in december 09 to enjoy Christmas as it didnt seem likely I'd see 2010 all the way through!?!? What did they know eh? Challenge accepted!? Lol)
I'm now medically retired at the age of 40 and virtually housebound but have all the time in the world to sit back and read to my hearts content. However I have drug induced arthritis now, along with my 4 other chronic illnesses, throughout most of my joints including wrists and hands. Somedays I can barely hold a toothbrush let alone one of SKs bigger novels especiallly as most of my copies are hardbacked as well!. Im starting to get a bit frustrated as i haven't reread The DT series since before 2010. I've never gone so long without checking in with Roland!!.
The saddest part is I've got about 5 books sitting totally unread as they've been bought as presents but I can't hold them to read them. As i can no longer work money is tight and I can't be spending much needed cash on a kindle book (or e read app) I actually already own.
So my question is, and i already know the answer really, is there any future plans to acquire a digital copy of purchased books, amazon do it in the UK on CD'S, In truth I would be exstatic to find out I could scan a code in any of my books and get a link to the digital version. I would love to continue to collect the books but i also need to read them.
Does anyone know if this is possible or even if there's talk of future possibilties?
Sorry folks for the long message/short question, in my defence it is 7:40 am UK time and I've managed to get a litle more than an Hours sleep. I finished my book at 5am, 11/22/63, its only taken me 18 months to finish as i had to give up with the book and wait to have spare money to buy it digitally only to then be on increased morphine over winter! Hence the reaon for joining you and asking!
Much love xx
