Here's something:

If you're asking the question -- this type of question in this particular instance -- haven't you already answered it?

You want to know if it's any good?

Read it.

And then come back and tell us what you thought.

Most of us are pretty patient about stuff like that.

For what it's worth, I would agree that Joe Hill is a very, very good writer. Having said that I'm not convinced that he is a very, very good novelist, or at least not yet. I've read Heart Shaped Box, Horns and NOS4R2 and if you're stuck for something to read then you could do a lot worse than any of these three.

Heart Shaped box is probably the least of them, it's functional but forgettable. Horns has the most promise but for me gets lost along the way, starting out as something mischievous and satirical but later on seeming to change it's mind and try to deliver something more serious. And NOS4R2 just felt all round unpleasant. Don't know why, obvioiusly I'm no stranger to reading about nasty people doing nasty things, but it felt like it needed to be undercut by something, some humour or maybe some heart.

So I'm not the greatest fan of his novels then. But his short stories, oh my. 20th Century Ghosts I think can stand alongside any of King Sr's story collections. Abraham's Boys, Pop Art, Best New Horror, The Black Phone, all sublime.

Well, havent read all. But NOS and 20th century gjosts i enjopyed. The shortstories was, i thought, a bit uneven as almost all collections but the best were really good. He has Kingish influences no doubt there but he has also his own voice. He is definitely worth a read.

I've only read his novels so far (I'll try the short stories when my TBR list gets a little shorter), but I've really enjoyed them.
I definitely feel SK's influence in JH's work, but I think that's a compliment to both of them.
Like Spideyman said, borrow one of Hill's books from the library to see whether his style is your thing or not.

Try thriftbooks, lowman. I have become a huge fan of theirs, lately. Shipping is free with a purchase of $10, and I have been pretty pleased with everything I have gotten there. I am a relatively new user, I tried it out because kingricefan is always raving about books he has found there.

Just checked quick, and they do have copies of everything, it looks like. Except the comics.
