If you don't mind sharing @annemarie, why did you decide not to read the Christ books? They are quite interesting, whether a believer or not.
Anne has always struggled with Catholicism. When writing the Christ books, she pretty much renounced the vampire books. Then she had a "falling out" with the church and decided not to continue the Christ story. Now she's back to writing about vampires. She's an odd one, that Anne Rice.

She writes novels. I have no interest in her interpretation of The Bible. Whether done as fact or fiction, I'm just not interested. Very few movies about Christ interest me either. (The one exception was The Ten Commandments. But when Heston held a gun in his hand and quoted from that movie...I can not ever watch that one again.)

Not that you asked moi, but I wanted scary horror stuff from Anne. I'm Catholic and have thought the series would be interesting (did you find it factual as well?). And then when she came back to Catholicism I was all "hooray", and then she fell away again and I was bummed.

I wasn't following anything when the book(s) came out.

Did she write them because she went back to Catholicism? Or go back because she wrote them? And then left...why?

Most authors do the talk show tour. Was this a ploy for book sales? "Oh look I'm Catholic again, buy my book!" Then leave the church ( again) when she goes back to her vampire...her most famous of vampires.

Here's an interview in which she discusses her reasons for going back and forth with Catholicism but basically it was their stance on same-sex marriage that was the ultimate reason for her leaving it again.

If I remember correctly, she went back to Catholicism when her beloved husband died. She became very interested in researching the religion (she becomes obsessive when she finds something of interest to herself), finding documents that predate the first time a Bible was ever written. She found things that made her question what religion was all about. Her falling out with the church, as Marsha (Moderator Supreme) said, had to do with having a son that is gay and how the church views homosexuality. As she (Anne) had said in an interview that I read awhile back- (paraphrasing here) 'Why am I giving my money to a religion that condemns a beautiful, loving person just because of who he loves? This religion preaches that we all love one another and yet there is hypocrisy everywhere.' Hope this helps.
