So John Edward is coming to Bangor in October and my mother is all kinds of excited. Thankfully one of my friends is as well and she is going with her so I don't have to.

What do you guys think of psychics like him, the Long Island Medium chick, or any others? Anyone ever had a reading?
I'm skeptical but not totally closed to the idea of it.

P.S. yes Triple O start the inevitable Physics thread now....;-D

At best, the best are fast thinkin', smooth talkin', intuitives that learned the trade skills and play their audience...ain't no bidness likes showbidness.
Me Grandmama worked the "mitt camp" (the fortune teller joint) back during the depression, had a crystal ball and everythang, Tarot cards and palm reading was her forte', musta been pretty good, I mean my Mama believed in it, or wanted to, at least to a degree.

All of 'em work the same. They start with broad topics and narrow it down according to the responses they get. When they ask, "How do you relate to the number 5?" they leave it up to the customer to come up with the association. I mean, think about it. The number 5 is going to relate to any of our lives in SOME way. If I say that my ex husband's birthday is in May, the clever psychic will say that that's his mother's way of validating that she's with us today. See how that goes? The customer does most of the work.

I'd have to meet with one of them and they'd have to tell me something that literally, nobody else could possibly know before I buy them as the real deal.

Don't get me wrong. I believe that anything's possible, and I'd LOVE to find out that Theresa (LIM) really does have the gift. But as of right now, the only thing I believe for certain is that she's entertaining. And I believe that she does help people. They go to her because they need some emotional closure, some way of being able to deal with their grief, and she gives it to them. So, I don't knock her. I'm just not convinced that she actually gets messages from "spirit."

My sister in law is a big fan of that gal - oh, the Jersey gal - shoot, don't make me google. Ummmm. Teresa Caputo?? Long Island Medium. So it was my SIL's birthday - 2 years ago and a bunch of us got together to rent a limo, go to a swanky restaurant downtown, and go see the show, when she was in town. It was hokey as hell. I can't help but think the people in the audience were coached, paid, something. It didn't feel at all like anything real was happening. 2 of the women with us fell asleep. 2 went back to the limo and drank everything left. I was bored. The woman herself was entertaining. But I'm very skeptical. Two and half hours I think - and she only did like 4 or 5 readings, out of a crowd of maybe 1500 - I don't know how many people that venue held, but it was packed.

On a side note, ages ago, I was told by a stranger to watch out for the man in the brown car, we'd never have children and I needed to move on. My ex-husband drove a brown car, we never had children and the marriage lasted 18 months. But I didn't pay the man anything. I was in a town I'd never been to before without said ex and brown car. So, I think there are people out there who know things. But I don't think they go around selling it.

Just my opinion.
