Hey, so I normally buy my books from this quaint old bookshop in the grassmarket it's always got like a new Stephen King - I've built up my collection from there and now have a sizable collection - but the Tommy knockers - Gard Ole Gard - brilliant -

But horror has changed - we have the master - one Mr Stephen King, who is without dispute the most prolific and well, the greatest at horror.

However - the market place is empty. Clive barker writes a little, but he's been gone since around the 90's lately... Richard Laymon is dead - we're kinda stuck for other new writers - can Mr King shed any light on who to watch out for -

Well I decided to check out Amazon. I don't own a kindle, I like the feel of a book but I do have a laptop and kindle readers are free... So I typed in a few key words... horror, fantasy, sex, drugs - and up came a host of titles - You can actually get some for nothing - big mistake - there is a reason why they're free - The one that struck me was the one that had the Title of the Jesus and Mary chain - Psycho Candy.

It's a long book and wow it is well written. I think if this chick (or guy - i forget the name) gets noticed then we're going to have a whole new world of horror for us.

I'm not saying he'll knock the king of his place but he's worth a real shot - Now love the Dark Half, Firestarter, the aforementioned Tommy Knockers, and so many more of his books - the shining, desperation, and my all time favourite the running man, which is one of the best books ever - if you have a laptop or an e-reader then follow this link - I advise you to get a copy and even you Mr King could maybe give this guy a hand on the long and stormy road to recognition...

Amazon.com: ebooks, horror, Psycho Candy

If you love horror as much as me and a well told story with twists - an actual gem in the rough, then I urge you to get yourself a copy...

Take care and peace out - I'm just about to start 11.22.63 - I hope it's in his true creative genius.

Peace out - you especially Beverly Marsh :)

Yes I have read John Ajvide Lindqvist - I most enjoyed his writing. I have read some King/Straub collaboration although for the life of me I cannot remember the name of it - it's been so long it's actually on my list to pick up (in hardback no less) which second hand will cost me about £5. I'll need to hunt down his solo work. I'll definitely check out Joe Hill - I didn't realize that Stephen had a son who wrote. I've always wanted to check out Tabatha's writing. Scott Smith - I now have a pile of names for book to buy next week LOL - One of each for starters should do it.

Thank you for the welcome. I really do love my horror and I sincerely recommend Psycho Candy - I will be checking out writers you recommend and hope you do the same. Thanks again for the welcome. Kindest regards

It will be good to see how father and son stack up - I do hope you'll take the time to read this new book also - I believe that variety is at the heart of every good reader and writer and that we must support each other, as opposed to favoring only one particular writer - It goes without saying that I am a Steven King fan - probably close to one of the deep space cowboys he mentions in Lisey's Story - LOL- well not that bad - but I actually find myself smiling and at time laughing out loud at the sheer genius of some of his plot lines - and books like Misery - when he laughs when she offers him caviar and she's cut of one of his feet and severed his fingers with a bread knife - I truly know good Horror when I see it and I hope that any fan of Stephen King will take me word for it when I say there is a true horror writer at work here - I've been reading Stephen since I was 14, over more than half a life time ago - there have been other writer who have come through with some brilliant books, but I always loved Stephen's, I could not get enough somehow - I hope my love of horror vouches for this struggling writer whose book is only on kindle but is cheap as a pint of lager in Britain - not bad for over 150,000 words - I'll look into the material suggested, I hope that you all have the trust in me to do the same - be safe people, all my best and kindest regards -

Well if you like horror i might add some of Dan Simmons. Not his scifi stuff but his horror stuf. Titles that come to mind are Carrion comfort, Song of Kali, Summer of night and The Terror. Otherwise i like the suggestions given. I hope, if you like Horror, you take time to check out some of the greats before King. Shirley Jackson, Richard Matheson, Robert Bloch and so on.

Agreed. Some of the old ones are wonderful. Jackson of course, but also Lovecraft, M.R. James, Algernon Blackwood, Sheridan LeFanu. There's this old gothic novel called The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe (much parodied) that is a fascinating read. The Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis is also an interesting old gothic novel. The last two aren't really horror, though they have an atmosphere about them that is oppressive. I don't read a lot of modern horror, so really King is about all I know from that modern genre.

Are you promoting this for someone else (a friend) or for yourself? Because, with three links in four posts, this sure looks like it. If I'm wrong, I apologize, but if I'm right this should be in the self-promotion category.

I recently read Dan Simmons' The Terror. A large part of this book was great. I am a history buff, of sorts, and a lover of the horror genre, so I loved much of the book. The ending though, just didn't do it for me, and in this case, it tainted the entire book...at least for me.

I am currently reading Firestarter and am loving it. Next its Neil Gaiman's Coraline, then Under the Dome.

I am thinking of getting some Clive Barker. Anyone have any suggestions?

When it comes to Clive Barker i can Recommend his Books of Blood. They are not good all of them (it is short stories) but the ones that is are really good.
