Hello I am new. I just signed up today.
I have to admit the only reason I've signed up is to try to have this one question answered.
I found a small notebook my father started when he was approximately 15 or 16 years old. The first 25 or so pages of the notebook is filled with quotes, thoughts, words of wisdom. Often quoting Alexander Pope, the Bible , poetry etc..
On the top of the third page is " Red Rum spelled backward is Murder"
This perplexed me because this note book dates to apooximately 1933.
Naturally I would like to ask Stephen King himself. But looking at all of the postings I realize that would be unlikely.
So what do you fine folks think? Is this a phrase common to the era or coincidence?

Welcome Tillie - no clue why your father jotted this down.

Hi and welcome. It may have just been an observation your father made by himself, and not connected with SK.

I agree; it may be some phrase or saying of the era. My fathers quote before this one was. "Where wit is in, wine is out." I'm thinking it was a phrase to keep kids from indulging in spirits.
I just can't find the root. The only other place I'd seen it is in the Shinning.
I was hoping someone may have a clue.

For when the wine is in, the wit is out.~Thomas Becon (1512-1567)

Thank you!
I knew it must have been a quote, but I couldn't find it. I am not sure if he wrote it down incorrectly or if I just couldn't make out the hand writing. So far all of the quotes can be traced except the red rum quote. ( for the time it was written that is)

It was going to be Bacardi but it sounds nonsensical backwards.

When I clicked on the above link it said it was forbidden - is this discrimination against Canucks or what? :ambivalence::redhat::suspect:
