My parents had a two-story house in Central Illinois in the decidedly blue-collar section of town.No air conditioning or nuthin' fancy like that.
I've always liked storms. But one night, I remember lying in bed at night by the open window, the warm wet breeze drifting through the screen, and watching, off to the east, a battle of the gods being waged in the clouds. Tendrils of lightning flashing back and forth, lighting up the night, accompanied occasionally by the rumble of the weapons being engaged. It was beautiful and enthralling.
