Another of my favorites from this collection. Creepy in all the wonderful ways! And plenty of reasons to never ever hitchhike.

I hitchhiked a lot in the 70s and only had one bad experience. A guy drove me out of the way down a road. I asked what the heck was going on? It turned out I knew his Mom from working as a Bell telephone operator!Another of my favorites from this collection. Creepy in all the wonderful ways! And plenty of reasons to never ever hitchhike.
...I'm enough of a fossil to still have my copy of the "world's first ever e-book", which was released in 2000....Another of my favorites from this collection. Creepy in all the wonderful ways! And plenty of reasons to never ever hitchhike.

Thanks! That was interesting.

Nothing happened, luckily - the guy just grabbed my wrist to try and stop me from leaving the vehicle.
I think his Mom was one of the worst two-faced 'ladies' in that office - just making an assumption here, but she probably taught him that girls who hitchhike are just "asking for it"
But to get back to the thread at hand:
I enjoyed the story very much. Even the movie made from the book (2004) wasn't too bad.
Things were a lot different back then - I knew girls who left Ontario and hitchhiked all the way to BC - I thought they were nuts!Glad nothing happened ... I almost hitchhiked once. My bike got a flat in the pouring rain and a guy in a pickup truck stopped and gave me a lift to my apartment complex. Not exactly hitchhiking though, hence the "almost" lol
Wasnt there a movie or something about this story but the ghost or whatever it was set back in like the 50s or something and he drove like a 50s model chevey?or am i thinking of something else entirely?
It's a really good story that I'd completely forgotten. Thanks.
